Robert Simone
Plein Air Oil/Acrylic
Rescheduled to September (Details coming soon)
10am-4pm
Selection
Robert Simone is a respected instructor who strives to inform, encourage and inspire. He is known for both his ability to demonstrate and to explain. He is a generous, organized and patient teacher. According to one appreciative student, “He knows what we need to know and is willing to tell us!” Robert says, “The impulse to paint is an emotional response to nature. But it requires some sort of framework through which we can express ourselves adequately.” Simone draws a correlation between music and painting, “In music, the scale provides the basic framework for expression. In painting, shapes, values, colors and edges provide the framework for expression. In that sense, painting becomes a translational process. It’s a visual language. At its most fundamental level painting is noticing and comparing. That’s what I teach, the fine art of noticing and comparing!”

"The ordinary… This applies not to my work, but to my subject. I strive to find the beauty in everyday scenes, everyday actions, everyday items. It is through the ordinary that I express the unusual. I am not drawn to scenes that everyone sees as beautiful and eye catching. I want my viewers to see that, if you look closely at all things, therein lie the colors, expressions and movements that are beautiful, even extraordinary.

I prefer to crop in close or view my subject from a different angle, offering a unique point of view. I study the colors I see and exaggerate them to express the excitement I feel from them. Through my choice of subject and colors I attempt to elicit memories in the viewer. I want them to say “I remember this from my childhood” “those colors really make me feel the scene, the object, the emotion”.

I want my viewer and my art to connect, to feel camaraderie, to feel intimate. We all have our memories, and surprisingly they are quite similar... they just have different details. I want my viewers to complete my paintings with their own details. This is my ultimate goal."

Exploration of Color! This workshop will be an exploration of color and how we may broaden our understanding of its use in bringing our concepts into reality. Each painting deserves its own palette.

We want to understand what color can do, what it does sometimes without our conscious decision about it, and how by understanding some of the interactions between colors, we can use that power to make our paintings more alive, and especially, more unique. No one else will make the same decisions or mixtures that you do. We can all learn the same notes, but the song won’t be the same when I sing it as it will when you do.www.evelyndunphy.com
