How can NSAA improve the way we conduct our exhibitions?
*The survey below is NOT a vote on the issue, but rather a method of gauging Juried Artist Membership opinion on the subject before it’s presented to the membership for a vote.*
Background:
Currently, the Board’s ability to rent NSAA space is limited by an NSAA policy that restricts the nature of works that may be displayed at NSAA. That policy prohibits the exhibition of all works of photography, all wet paint canvases (including plein air), all digital media, and some types of etchings, engravings, and lithographs, as well as certain framing styles. Understandably, these restrictions are unacceptable to many organizations that want to display works that may not comply with these limitations.
The NSAA Board is authorized, in its discretion, to permit other arts organizations to rent all or part of the NSAA space for private exhibitions and other purposes. These rentals benefit NSAA by providing substantial revenue to NSAA and by fostering goodwill with other arts organizations. In renting any NSAA space, the Board takes care to ensure that the timing and location of rentals do not unreasonably interfere with the use of the NSAA facility primarily for NSAA exhibitions.
Recommendation:
The Board believes that it is in the best interests of NSAA to permit the Board, on a case-by-case basis, to have the ability to waive existing hanging policy for parties that rent NSAA space for their own exhibitions. The proposed change only affects renters and has no bearing on NSAA member exhibits.
