BOOKBINDING
WITH KATHRYN BERCHIN

In this bookbinding workshop, students will have the opportunity to create 1-3 books, exploring the basics of the coptic, pamphlet, and/or stab-binding techniques. By the end of the workshop, students will have made at least one sketchbook using the coptic stitch, creating a book that is ideal for artmaking in the studio or on-the-go. With the option to include handmade paper from the previous workshop, students will build a deeper personal connection to their sketchbooks, creating handmade objects that will accompany them in further authentic encounters with their creative practice and surroundings.
ABOUT KATHRYN
Born and raised in Massachusetts, Kathryn Berchin is a printmaker and mixed media artist currently living in Salem, MA. She studied drawing and printmaking at Gordon College and was significantly impacted by her time studying and working in Italy–inspired by authentic connection and presence in the places she’s traveled to and lived in, she brings those experiences to her continued creative practice and craft. Having worked in various educational settings over the years, she has now gratefully landed as a lead toddler teacher at Waldorf School at Moraine Farm in Beverly where she can now invest in cultivating tangible and creative experiences for her little ones out in nature and in their day-to-day life in the classroom.
