Alcohol Ink/Acrylic Demonstration with Trudy Allen

An artist demonstration with Trudy Allen of alcohol ink along with acrylic will show various techniques and applications of two very different mediums and their substrates. A solo show of her works will be on display September 12th – 29th in the NSAA Gordon Grant Room. A meet the artist reception will be held on Sunday, September 12th 2-4pm. Open free to the public.

Acrylic Demonstration with Kathy Coakley

Artist demonstration in acrylic with Kathy Coakley. Learn how to make your acrylic paintings pop through texturizing and glazing techniques. Kathy will demonstrate how to incorporate molding paste, metallic paint and gloss medium into your artwork.

A pop-up show of her works will be on display July 12th through July 18th in the NSAA Studio Gallery. Open free to the public.

Acrylic Demonstration with Tom Gill

Artist demonstration using acrylic glazes with Tom Gill. Using a limited palette of three colors, Tom will execute a snow scene using vigorous brush strokes and bold colors. The focus will be on line, tone, color and design.

A show of his works along with artist Mary Rose O’Connell will be on display August 3rd through August 20th in the NSAA Gordon Grant Room. Open free to the public.

Jude Abbe Oil Demonstration

We are thrilled to welcome NSAA’s local award-winning artist Jude Abbe, who is giving an oil painting demo this Thursday, July 21, 2022, at 6:00 PM. Jude is going to focus on how light plays a major role in still life painting by showing how light interacts with the subject. She hopes that her demo will inspire new and experienced artists alike to “look at things differently”.

Jude is the recipient of the Charles Movalli Gold Medal and the Grumbacher Award of Distinction! She is an active member of the North Shore Arts Association, Rockport Art Association & Museum, and the Lyme Art Association.

Susan Drennan Oil Demonstration

Join us for Susan Drennan’s painting demo Saturday, October 15 at 2PM. Susan will explain her process and share the importance of contrast during this demo focusing on oil painting and landscapes.

With her love of color and use of light and shadow, she portrays landscapes, portraits, and close-up depictions of the natural world in an impressionistic or realistic way. Each of these subjects inspire her for their beauty and significance of light and shadow.

Every time she paints she says, “Paint large shapes first, then start on your focal point, and, what is the value?”

Michele O’Neil Watercolor Demonstration

Join us this Saturday, October 8th at 2PM for award winning artist, Michele O’Neil’s watercolor painting demo. Contemporary artist Michele O’Neil resides on the coast of Cape Ann. She has been working with watercolor and oil paints for almost two decades, expressing a love for the landscape of her home and abroad. This reverence for her surroundings brings her canvas and brushes “en plein air” allowing the energy of the experience to lead her creative process. Michele’s bold watercolors are an attempt to try to capture the energy and fleeting moment of her experience. If she travels, her easel travels with her so that any opportunities of inspiration are not wasted.

Peter Bain Oil Demonstration

Join us this Saturday, September 24 at 2 PM, for Peter Bain’s free oil painting demonstration! The influence of Cape Ann is apparent in Peter’s work, with boats, rocks, sand, and the ocean predominantly in his paintings. Saturday, September 17  at 2 PM join Kat Masella and Sarah Milton geeking out over art materials! They’re discussing a variety of supplies, tools, and methods they use to get unique effects, and simultaneously demonstrating the outcomes on canvas. It’s going to be fun and unexpected. Alonzo Clarke Watercolor Demonstration

Alonzo Clarke is a local watercolor artist who fell in love with art at an early age. He is inspired by ancient structures, fishing shacks on coastal cliffs, and architectural curiosities. Alonzo recently found that he’s mostly interested in producing an emotional richness achieved by focusing on elements of design and embracing a lack of control in his work.
