Bradley Hendershot

Bradley Hendershot paints the landscapes and structures that have shaped his life—rural Pennsylvania, coastal New England, and the high country of Vermont. These regions hold deep personal meaning for him, and his work is rooted in the things he knows well. From old mills and barns to weathered shanties and mountain villages, each subject carries a sense of place, history, and emotion that he strives to honor in paint.

Much of his inspiration comes from his surroundings in Hoppenville, Pennsylvania, and from nearly three decades of summers spent on Monhegan Island, Maine, with his wife, artist Katharine Krieg. Whether capturing the fading heritage of rural Pennsylvania or the rugged shoreline and isolation of Monhegan, he aims to convey the atmosphere, stories, and rhythms of these environments. Vermont’s vibrant villages and snow-covered peaks offer yet another contrast, and painting outdoors there deepens the authenticity he hopes viewers can feel.

Hendershot grew up painting alongside his father, Ray Hendershot AWS, NWS, whose influence helped shape his devotion to realistic, emotionally resonant work. Rooted in the Brandywine tradition, his approach emphasizes realism, mood, and storytelling. He studies each subject carefully, uses watercolor representationally, and relies on both fluid washes and meticulous drybrush to build texture, structure, and feeling. Each piece begins with sketches and evolves through decisions that balance accuracy with artistic license.

Throughout his career, he has continued to refine his methods while teaching workshops, exhibiting widely, and maintaining the Hendershot & Krieg Studio in Hoppenville. He holds signature memberships in several national art societies, and his work appears in museum, corporate, and private collections worldwide. His paintings are also available in limited- and open-edition reproductions through Stonerow Publishing and Bruce McGaw Graphics.
