Brent Rotsko
When I was young, I developed a love and appreciation for the arts while watching my mother spend hours expressing her passion through oil painting. I spent most of my younger days on the athletic fields, however growing up on the North Shore of Boston surrounded by rivers, marshes, and being close to the Atlantic Ocean I felt drawn to the sea. I entered Maine Maritime Academy in pursuit of a life traveling the oceans and exploring the world.
While at sea as a Merchant Marine I developed an interest in wood carving and spent much of my time carving intricate model ships. This was the first of my artistic endeavors. It was when my mother passed away, that I picked up her brushes, began to paint, and fell in love with oil painting.
Reading Richard Schmid’s book “Alla Prima” strengthened my enthusiasm for the arts. Working with the guidance of Robin Thornhill ( www.robinthornhill.com ) and currently Todd Bonita (www.toddbonita.com) and the great passion they have for art continues to expand my knowledge and love for the arts.
I find extreme joy in capturing the sights of New England and displaying them on canvas as seen through my eyes.
My work has been accepted by jury for exhibition in The Newburyport Art Association and Concord Art Association and most recently have been juried into membership at the North Shore Art Association.
