Donald Doyle
I have worked in Boston as an illustrator and graphic designer for most of my life, sometimes in publishing, sometimes advertising or packaging, but always with printers.
Standing in a gallery before a unique (and timeless) masterwork is often a very moving experience; working with your printer to accomplish a thousand copies of ephemera is a different kind of thrill.
I have always had to communicate a legible message to an invisible audience, so for me the studio can feel like a very crowded space, even when I would appear to be alone there, squinting at an empty panel. I think that all my pictures are narratives, even if they may look like snap shots: that teaching and storytelling are essential human actions, and…I always go on for too long with these things.
