George Darcy
I am inspired by the scenes and flora and fauna of the natural world, particularly in coastal New England. My training in botany and marine biology influences my attention to detail, such as in my floral and beach still-lifes. My love of a good story, however, helps broaden my focus to capture character and sense of place in my landscapes.
My primary medium is watercolor, but I also work in oils and pastels. I have had the good fortune to be able to study and take workshops with a variety of excellent artists, including William Duke, Susan Spellman, Sue Charles, Alan Bull, Ann Schaefer, and Robert Henry and other faculty at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. I am an Artist member of the Newburyport Art Association (NAA), a member of the Watercolor Interest Group at the NAA, as well as a juried Artist member of the North Shore Arts Association, and have displayed my work in both juried and non-juried shows throughout the area. I also exhibit in several galleries in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
