I was born and raised north of Boston. The town was a typical working-class environment. It was the kind of place where art was considered what you saw on TV. My family was just a little out of the ordinary. My father’s mother was a hobbyist artist. There were paintings of my grandmother’s hung around the house. Although we as a family didn’t go to art museums, the house was a de-facto museum to my grandmother. This is where my interest in art germinated. My parents were generous with drawing and painting materials which became indirect encouragement. My siblings benefited from this generosity too. The interest in visual art was further intensified throughout high school. My high school art teacher, Mr. George Palmer, was instrumental in giving freedom and instruction to foster further exploration of different media. The practical goal was to build a portfolio to use to gain entry into art school. That portfolio led to acceptance to New England School of Art (NESA) out of Suffolk University in Boston.
