Janet Schwartz

Although trained as an art teacher, I initially put off my artistic interests to pursue a corporate career. During my lengthy work commutes, I was inspired by the energy and chaos of highway lights and reflections and began painting in earnest in my free time. A few years ago, I traded in my corporate career for a full life of painting and teaching painting, and I haven’t turned back.

My work focuses on the variation of light in nature and architecture, remaining drawn to the unexpected beauty of urban landscapes and traffic scenes. Although I consider myself a pastel artist, I also work in oils and charcoal.

I am a Master Circle Member of the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS), a Copley Artist with the Copley Society of Art, and a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA) and Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod (PPSCC). I have served on the board of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod (PPSCC) for six years, currently in the role of VP.
