Margaret Rawls
In 1985, in a class at the DeCordova Museum School, I was introduced to watercolor., and I loved it. Itʼs fluidity and transparency took some getting used to, but ever since then it has been my only medium. Most of my commissioned work is in portraiture, but I paint a large number of land, sea and townscapes. My aim has always been to achieve the luminosity and transparency that can be so effective in watercolor. The momentary expression that brings a face to life and gives it a unique personality, and the ever changing light that gives atmosphere to a familiar scene can be captured in watercolor as in no other medium. I find it exhilarating!
