Maureen DeSisto

Maureen DeSisto is an acrylic landscape painter whose themes include the New England landscape and everyday life. She draws directly on the canvas with the brush and also enjoys painting in black and white which strips down the scene to raw shapes and images and shadows.

Maureen explores nostalgia such as carousels, antique cars, old mill buildings, local landmarks, lighthouses, farms and women sweeping and washing dishes. Maureen composes each scene in the camera lens and think about how it translates to a canvas later on. She uses the camera as a tool and takes reference photos. A subject has to mean something or represent something for her to want to paint it, especially things that evoke deep feelings from the viewer and bring back memories. She makes trips to Rockpo1t, Newburyport and Gloucester and finds inspiration in the local scenery and art galleries.

A life-long Methuen resident, she studied with Bill Swank of Salem, NH and attended Mass. College of Art in Boston, earning a BFA in Illustration and AAS in Commercial Art at Chamberlayne JR. College of Boston.

She is a Board member of the Greater Haverhill Art Association.

Two of her paintings of historic Methuen are in Methuen’s Enterprise Bank’s permanent collection.
