Susan Lippman

Sue Lippman had an early interest in art and was accepted and graduated from the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan. She decided to be practical and became an elementary school Math and Science teacher. While teaching, she illustrated articles for Commodore magazine and illustrated a book about the Lowell Mill Girls sold at the National Park Service offices. She retired from teaching after more than thirty years and once again focused on her artwork.

Sue has taken many individual courses on different skills in art, including workshops with Sergio Roffo, Daniel Keyes, William Davis, David Curtis and Stapleton Kearns. Her training as a teacher made her understand that in order to gain mastery, an artist needs to focus on one method. She has studied with Kathy Cooper, Mary Minifie, and for ten years, with the Boston School Master, Paul Ingbretson. Under Paul’s tutelage, Sue has worked on cast charcoal drawing, memory work, setting up and painting a still life, as well as figure and portrait charcoal studies and paintings. Her primary medium is oil.

She currently works in her art studio, located at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell.
